The first RSE Romandie meet-up to bring industry and academic RSEs together under the same roof was a resounding success! A bit more than 40 participants gathered to learn about the RSE trade and various research projects. But the most important parts were the coffee/tea/juice pauses to discuss and get to know each other! Click for more information, pictures, and the link to the talks.

We are starting to get used to hearing the term Research Software Engineers in academia, but our peers in industry are less well known. So it was a pleasure to have about 1/4 of our attendance coming from SICPA, Kudelski, and Swisscom! They enjoyed the talks and discussions to get to know more what is going on in research, and how we engineers participate in the research.

Swiss Romandie was represented by Fribourg, Geneva, Neuchâtel, Valais, Vaud as presenters and participants, which was very nice. We’re not yet clear if the next such event should be called RSE-SO - let’s see :)

The feedback was very positive: presenters were energised by the follow-up questions they received, and attendees highlighted the networking and the cross-pollination of ideas as clear highlights.

For the next event, we will make sure that some of the suggestions can be included, such as:

  • more talks about the “Research” in RSE
  • an official after-event beer - sorry for those who missed it!
